About the role:
CASS MUC delivers multi-utility infrastructure with confidence. From early-stage design through to final connection and network adoption, we provide integrated gas, water, electrical and telecoms infrastructure across the UK — simplifying delivery, reducing risk and keeping projects moving.
We are seeking a Utility Designer (NERS – Electrical Networks) to support the design and delivery of electrical infrastructure projects, with the opportunity to work across gas and water where multi-skilled.
This is a key technical role within the business, responsible for producing compliant, cost-effective and customer-focused utility designs, while supporting project delivery and maintaining high standards across all design activities.
What you’ll be doing:
As a Utility Designer, you will be responsible for producing high-quality electrical network designs and supporting the wider design and delivery process. Your day-to-day activities will include:
Producing on and off-site electrical network designs (LV/HV) in line with NERS and industry standards
Preparing demand calculations and network drawings to ensure designs are compliant and fit for purpose
Liaising with customers to ensure designs meet expectations and project requirements
Submitting connection applications to DNOs/IDNOs and managing responses within required timescales
Working with Land Rights teams to support easements and land transfers
Producing construction packs in line with project and client requirementsLiaising with third-party stakeholders including utility operators, local authorities and developers
Supporting internal and external stakeholders with design-related queries
Maintaining accurate asset records, data and reporting
Supporting continuous improvement of design processes and efficiencies
What we're looking for:
We are looking for a technically capable and customer-focused designer with experience in utility network design. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
Experience in utility network design, ideally within electrical (NERS) infrastructure
Strong understanding of current legislation, technical standards and codes of practice
Ability to produce compliant, efficient and commercially aware designs
Strong communication skills and ability to work with a range of stakeholders
Ability to manage workload and meet project deadlines
Required skills and experience:
To succeed in this role, you will ideally have:
Experience in electrical network design (LV/HV) within an ICP or utilities environment
Strong knowledge of relevant industry standards (e.g. G81, DNO/IDNO requirements)
Ability to produce compliant, accurate and efficient designs
CSCS card or SHEA Gas/Electric passport
Competent in Microsoft Office and familiar with design/GIS systems
Desirable:
Qualification in Electrical Engineering (HNC/HND/Degree or similar)
EngTech registration (or willingness to work towards)
Experience across multi-utility design (gas/water)
